Tattoo Aftercare
(for sensitive, oily & dry skin)
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Right After Getting Tattooed (Day 0)
-
Remove the plastic wrap after 2–4 hours (unless using special “Second Skin” film – then follow your studio’s instructions).
-
Wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and pH-neutral, fragrance-free soap. No sponges or washcloths – just clean hands.
-
Gently pat dry (don’t rub!) with kitchen paper, a lint-free cloth, or a fresh towel.
-
Apply a thin layer of healing ointment – e.g. Bepanthen, TattooMed, Cicaplast B5. The skin needs to breathe – no greasy layer!

.
2. First Week (Days 1–7)
-
Clean and moisturize 2× daily – for example, in the morning and evening. For oily skin, wash more often if needed (e.g. after workouts); for dry skin, apply cream more frequently.
-
Keep the tattoo dry and clean. Avoid tight clothing or anything that rubs.
-
Don’t scratch or pick at scabs! Itching is normal.
-
No baths, swimming, or sauna! Quick showers are fine.
-
No direct sunlight or tanning beds! Cover the tattoo or stay in the shade.

.
3. Second Week (Days 8–14)
-
Scabs will start to come off. Continue gentle washing and applying a thin layer of cream.
-
Don’t peel off any loose skin or flakes – this disrupts healing and damages pigment.
-
For dry skin, you can apply cream up to 3× daily. Oily skin may only need 1×.
-
Mild flaking or peeling is normal.

4. From Week 3 Onwards (Until Fully Healed)
-
The tattoo is surface-healed, but the skin is still regenerating.
-
Usually, applying cream once a day is enough.
-
From now on: use SPF 50+ sunscreen if your tattoo is exposed to sunlight.
-
Swimming and sports are fine again, as long as the skin is no longer open.
